Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed.

This thing above is the actual error message I got when I was trying to play a DVD that I legally bought…well f*** you guys I thought and after emptying my bottle Jim to the half and stressing Google I found a solution.

libdvdcss seems not to be included in Debian packages anymore…don’t know why. 😉 But this URL will contain DEB-files one can install via dpkg -i to view the content one’s payed for.

Have fun 😉

The Legacy of Aaron Swartz

February 3rd, 2013 No comments

I have to admit that the first time I really recognised the person named “Aaron Swartz” was when I read the news of his permanent absence in this plane. Ever since then I stumbled upon software that he created and which are building blocks in my everyday life. Simple things like html2text as well as the framework web.py that I used to write my first webpage. Or whenever I use things like the Markdown language which is default on github, the format i write my text notes in and was substantially influenced by Aaron. Ohh – and RSS of course, and Reddit, and SOPA, and . . .
